Does TV have a negative influence on society?

TV is inherent in our lives. It is natural for a person to enter an apartment, switch on the light, then switch on the TV, and then keep on doing other things. The problem is not with watching - the problem is with watching what: breeding violence and aggression through horror films or being stupefied by silly talk shows of many kinds. TV is becoming one of our main leisure activities, a source of ready-made stereotypes and new myths, a passive view of the world thrust on us from the angle of the camera that may distort the reality out of recognition. We like TV and hate it because we are addicted to it. TV is powerful because it is politically oriented; it establishes public standards, it denies alternative thinking; it only simulates a variety of opinions, hiding back the ideology of mass conformism. Watching too much TV dehumanizes you, weakens your little gray cells, and makes your critical and reflective thinking abortive.

Yes, it does. Television can be a terrible influence, especially on children. If the television they watch is not controlled children often watch violent and inappropriate programs that they can not really understand. Due to this children can fight with other children and harm them, without realizing what they are doing simply because they saw it on TV. Watching too much TV can also prevent people from going outside, and socializing which are necessary in life.

Television shows are the most popular program that can amuse people who are interested in watching them. Nowadays, people especially children are depended on TV to spend their time, and they would rather to fill up their schedule by sitting in front of TV and watching it. Let's look at what I believe should be good examples of the negative influence of television. I'll focus on the most serious ones. My intention here is to get you to think about what TV is, instead of what it appears to be.
One particularly negative influence of television is it makes others unimportant, even at the dinner table.
TV makes people unimportant. When it's important to have a television on at mealtime, then the people you're eating with are no longer as important. Whether it's the kitchen TV, the TV that you can see from the dining area, or the dozens of televisions at the restaurant, it's clear that TV takes center stage in our lives.
TV can stop our thinking. When we have talking heads and news anchors providing us with a constant stream of information, insights and observations, we can easily find a source of opinion that allows us to stop our critical thinking.

TV has both good and bad on society. It depends on who is watching. TV is full of programs and commercials that depict risky behaviors (such as drinking alcohol, doing drugs, smoking cigarettes, and having premarital sex) as cool, fun, and exciting. And often, there's no discussion about the consequences of those actions. While watching TV, kids are inactive and tend to snack. They're also bombarded with ads that encourage them to eat unhealthy foods like potato chips and empty-calorie soft drinks that often become preferred snack foods.

I believe that TV is not all that bad. Watching TV can be good if it is done in moderation, and if the program being watched is selected: Some TV shows can educate, inform and inspire. It can be more effective than books or audiotapes in teaching your kid about processes like how a plant grows or how to bake a cake. The kids who watch educational and non-violent children’s shows do better on reading and math tests than those who do not watch these programs and tend to have higher grades, are less aggressive and value their studies more when they reach high school. Scientists from the University of Siena found that children experience a soothing, painkilling effect by watching cartoons. So perhaps, a little entertainment TV can be a source of relief to kids who are stressed or are in pain.

So many TV shows are adult and sexual that you would think its all people want to know about but at the same time shows like that are also very good for teens to watch and also have messages in them that really do get across than someone shouting at them. Lots of shows are not good for young children but in all honestly shows are becoming more and more about everyday life and what goes on in the world so I would say yes but at the same time its a shame parents have to be careful. I think more shows need to be aimed at children not just 17 right up to 40, but I can think of a few shows that are okay for young children there just isn't enough of them. But for us teens and adults I think some really good shows have come out that really does grab us. I'm not one for saying TV is bad because there is to much sex and drugs and what not cause if you look at most shows that have it is all comes from reason and logic.

for sure, they will addict easily.Watching television for hours a day switches off
our brains so we don’t have to think about our own lives and when it’s time to turn the TV off and reality comes to bite us in the rear, We retreat into the safe confines of television once again.

Television has its good side. It can be both entertaining and educational and can open up a new world for kids, giving them a chance to travel the globe, learn about different cultures, and gain exposure to ideas they may never encounter in their own community. Shows with a pro-social message can have a positive effect on kids' behavior.
For the negative influence are
1. Kids who watch TV before bed tend to have a disturbed sleep and wake up during the night
2. Distracting
3. Kids forget / don't want to do chores, Homework,be active.... etc.
4. Too much TV can actually shrink your knowledge
5. Hurts eyes

Anyway television is both good and bad.
