Consuming too many refined or sugar-rich foods can cause high blood triglyceride levels while decreasing levels of health-promoting HDL cholesterol and may contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress, according to the American Heart Association. Eating frequently increases the risk of tooth decay and eaten two or three hours before lunch or dinner, a small, nutritious snack can both tide you over and help prevent you from overeating at mealtime.

| Most of the foods categorized as "snack foods" are not healthy. For example, chocolate bars, candies, granola bars, crackers, potato chips, fruit punches and soft drinks are all loaded with unnecessary calories, fats and sugar. In addition, most snack foods fail to provide your body with the important nutrients it needs for optimal health. The increased prevalence of overweight and obesity can be attributed to many reasons, one of them being an increased calorie intake. Americans consumed 570 more calories every day -- compared to just over three decades ago -- and most of these calories come from snacking. Most people snack not just because they are hungry. Food availability contributes to snacking. For example, if you are at a meeting and muffins, bagels or donuts are available, you are likely to snack and consume more calories than your body needs. Other people snack because they need something to spice up their boring afternoon. Although a bag of potato chips could make your boring job seems more bearable for a few seconds, the negative effect on your waistline is probably not worth it.

3) It has something of a positive feedback effect. The more snacks you eat (especially those rich in simple sugars), the more you crave them. The more you crave them, the more you consume. Hence, the health risks become very prominent when increasing amounts of snacks are consumed.
4) Snacks are also budget extensive. Many people spend a lot on empty calories from snacks that they can save if they have a healthy meal at home.

| Snacking can result in overfeeding on snack foods - you may not know when to draw the line. As with adults when you binge on snacks, you lose appetite for proper foods. Expect the same to happen with your baby if he has been snacking more than he should - our appetite for meals will drop. | The disadvantage of snack is it could make you fat. There are lots of sugar and monosodium glutamate. Some snacks have lots of color and unhealthy substances. If we have a large amount of it, it would harm our body. Anyway we should avoid eating unhealthy snacks.

| I am one of them that really love to eat snacks especially, when watch TV and drive a car as well. But yeap i know that the high saturated fat and sodium content in many snack foods make it difficult to keep your weight under control, especially if you have the habit of snacking every day or multiple times during the day. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that between 15 and 30 percent of American adults struggle with obesity, a condition caused by overeating fatty, salty and sugar foods, which includes snacks. The CDC also states that overconsumption of such foods can be linked to numerous health conditions ranging from heart disease to some forms of cancer.

| These are the disadvantages of snacks. A need to take a few energy boosting snacks became a big concern for people complaining from energy shortage and fatigue during school time and work days. Both adults and kids need a light snack to stay energetic and concentrating. Such snack differs according to what they used to eat and what they love, but mostly not all snacks are light or healthy.
The healthiest snacks should contain a variety of nutrition elements under the condition of easy digestion. However, some prefer to take quick energy boosters, such as chocolates or carbohydrates, believing that they boost their energy and keep them concentrating.
The secret behind the snacks that contain carbohydrates is ‘being digested immediately when you eat them’. Carbohydrates are considered the body’s first preference on energy. But such technique is suitable in case of sport training and hard work; and mostly not so healthy for our lazy, modern lifestyle.
Energy boosting through carbohydrates has a disadvantage that many don’t bear in mind. Eating carbohydrate-rich foods, according to the amount of daily physical work or activities, should have a good effect on your body and brain. But if you don’t do sufficient physical activities to burn the calories resulting from carbohydrates, they will be stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen.
