In my life I have found several ways to improve personal awareness, these are my favorite.

Listen to Yourself
Pay attention to what you think and feel. If you are feeling down in the dumps and you can not quite figure out why, continue listening to yourself until you figure it out. If you still don’t know what’s wrong, you may find it beneficial to seek help from a physician or therapist.

Linking the Body to the Mind
You cannot have a fulfilling life while stuck in front of a TV all day. Taking up yoga or meditation to straighten out your muscles as well as your thoughts can help you attune your body with your mind. Developing personal body awareness is one of the most significant ways I’ve found to improve your confidence, mood, and focus.

For most of my young life, I believed my needs wouldn’t be met if I didn’t push and fight for them.

I saw everything as a battle—it was everyone else against me. Though I’ve learned to see others as on my side, and I know that I’m on theirs, I still worry that people aren’t looking out for me at times.

In the aftermath of this recent altercation, I talked through my feelings with my boyfriend.

I told him I understood my emotional response, and I knew where it came from—when I first felt this way and why and how it’s been a pattern in my life.

Make a list of the things you like and dislike.- Knowing what you like and what you don’t like is a very basic form of self-awareness. But have you ever taken the time to write it all down and admit that there are just some things that you’d really rather not spend your time doing? You may find that you spend a lot of time doing things you’d rather not because you don’t want to let other people down. That’s okay, but you also want to make sure that you spend time doing the things that speak to your heart too, now that you’re more aware of what they are.

Having them written down on a list that stares you in the face works well too. It’s a lot harder to ignore your likes when they’re in plain view.
