Mindfulness helps me to act sooner. I have reflected upon these past instances and determined the warning signals that I show before the explosion. Even though my instinct in the moment remains the same, I am able to use these signals as an alert that tells me to use DBT skills other methods that have been effective for in similar situations in the past. Of course, my long term goal is to get at the root of the anger or anxiety. It would be lovely if I did not need tools at all. However, mindfulness allows us to regulate our thoughts and behavior right now.
